The Community Foundation of San Saba County, Inc. was organized in 2007 as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, dedicated to the enhancement of community life in San Saba County through programs, activities and facilities in support of education, recreation, culture, historic preservation, literacy and art.
Originally, the Foundation was managed by a 12 member board of directors. Currently, the board consists of 29 San Saba County property and business owners.
With donations, along with proceeds from the organization’s annual Catkins Ball and proceeds from the Ellenburger Cup Polo Match, the Foundation has been able to contribute funds and manpower to a number of worthwhile causes, including:
*The restoration of the historic Estep-Burleson building (sometimes called the
Burden Hotel) on the courthouse square;
*Help with the preservation of the former City National Bank building on Wallace Street;
*Helping to preserve the Wedding Oak tree & marker;
*Assisting with the restoration of the Garden Club building (an 1875 era grist mill in Mill Pond Park);
*Construct native rock retaining walls around the pavilion in Mill Pond Park; *Convert the old Menchaca service station into a Visitors Center; and
*Construct sorely needed public restrooms behind the Visitors Center
Other community efforts have included donations to:
*San Saba Youth Sports, Inc. to help build facilities for the roughly 400 youth in our county;
*the San Saba Ministerial Alliance to help flood victims;
*the Garden Club to help repair flood damage to their building;
*the Buyers Club to support the youth in the annual Stock Show; and
*the San Saba County Friends of Animals for new kennels
